WiFi & network sorted
For WiFi that drops out or will not reach the back of the house.
How it works.
Working out where the signal actually fails rather than guessing, then fixing it — repositioning, mesh units, or wiring where wireless will never be good enough.
Thick walls and long houses are the usual culprits round here, especially in the older properties.
Everything reconnected and tested before I leave, on every device in the house.
What’s included.
- Finding out where the signal actually fails rather than guessing
- Telling apart the three different problems: weak signal, congestion, and a slow line
- Repositioning, mesh units or wiring — whichever the house actually needs
- Every device reconnected and every room tested before I leave
When you don’t need this
If your broadband line itself is slow, no amount of internal networking will fix it — that is a conversation with your provider, and I will tell you if that is what the testing shows.
What people ask.
Will a better router fix it?
Sometimes, and often not. If the problem is distance or thick walls, a more powerful router in the same spot changes very little — the signal needs to start closer to where you use it. If it is congestion in a block of flats, a new router on the same crowded channel does nothing at all.
Are those plug-in extenders any good?
They are the thing most people have already tried, and they typically halve the speed while extending the range. Mesh is usually the better answer, and sometimes a single well-placed cable beats all of it.
Other things I do.
PC diagnostic & repair
Find out what is actually wrong, then fix it.
- A full look at what the machine is actually doing, not a guess from the symptoms
- A written price before any work starts, and no work without your say-so
Speed up my PC
For machines that take five minutes to think about opening a browser.
- Finding out which of the three usual culprits it actually is: the drive, the startup load, or genuinely not enough memory
- Clearing what is starting up in the background that should not be
Virus scan + total backup
Clean the machine, and get your files somewhere safe.
- A full clean of viruses, malware and the browser hijackers that reinstall themselves in every browser
- Your files backed up as part of the job, not offered as an extra
Been hacked?
Accounts recovered, machine cleaned, everything locked back down.
- Getting you back into the accounts you have lost access to
- The machine collected and cleaned properly at the workshop, then returned
Data recovery
Photos, documents and files off a drive that will not cooperate.
- An honest assessment of the odds before you commit to anything
- Recovery from failed and failing drives, deleted files, and machines that will not start
Screens, batteries & parts fitted
Cracked screens, dying batteries, worn-out parts replaced.
- Sourcing the right part for the machine you actually have, including older kit
- The part priced and agreed before I order anything
No surprises on the bill.
WiFi & network sorted — £149 + devices, agreed before I start. Where parts are needed they're quoted before fitting, and if it isn't worth doing, I'll say so.
