Computer help in Upminster.
Upminster is the end of the District line and covers a wide, mostly residential area. New-computer setups are the bread and butter here — moving a life across from an old machine and making sure nothing is left behind on it.
Twenty minutes or so. I come to you, you drop it in, or I collect and return — whichever suits.
What Upminster houses are like to work in.
Comfortable suburban housing, a lot of it detached with decent-sized gardens. Home offices and garden rooms come up often, and a garden room is its own networking problem: too far for house WiFi, and the answer is usually a proper link rather than hopeful extenders.
What comes up most here
- New machines set up and the old one properly cleared before it leaves
- Getting a signal to a garden office or outbuilding reliably
- Teaching sessions for people who want to be confident, not dependent
The jobs I do most round here.
New PC home setup + teaching
New computer set up properly, and shown to you properly.
- Everything moved across: files, photos, email, printers, bookmarks and passwords
- The pre-installed rubbish removed and the machine set up the way you want it
- An hour sitting with you going through it, at your pace
WiFi & network sorted
For WiFi that drops out or will not reach the back of the house.
- Finding out where the signal actually fails rather than guessing
- Telling apart the three different problems: weak signal, congestion, and a slow line
- Repositioning, mesh units or wiring — whichever the house actually needs
Speed up my PC
For machines that take five minutes to think about opening a browser.
- Finding out which of the three usual culprits it actually is: the drive, the startup load, or genuinely not enough memory
- Clearing what is starting up in the background that should not be
- A health check on the drive, because "slow" is often "failing"

Asked a lot in Upminster.
Can you get WiFi to my garden office?
Usually, yes — but not with a plug-in extender, which is what most people have already tried. It normally wants a directional link or a buried cable, and I will tell you which before you buy anything.
What happens to my old computer?
Everything comes across first, then I wipe it properly if you are passing it on. Handing an old machine to someone with your accounts still signed in is more common than it should be.
I also cover these.
